YL Photography Engagement Package Giveaway // Vote for the Finalists!

Thanks to all the couples for sending in the their entries to the giveaway answering the question “what are you most thankful for about your other half?” I really enjoyed reading your stories, and surprisingly, my favorite entries are all written by men! This further proves the theory that all the good men are taken :p. Haha, all joking aside, here are the entries that touched my heart the most in no particular order.

“What are you doing??? ” railed Emmy from the 16 mile marker at the Baltimore marathon. “Run FASTER!” My legs were wobbly…my entire body on the verge of collapse. I probably had choice words of my own (if I had the energy). But just having Emmy there for me, yelling–er, “cheering” me on gave me the determination to push forward. It’s her constant support that enamores me about her; she believes in me….she cares about me. Yes, she can be ruthless at times, recently staging a coup d’etat and throwing out my 70s looking flowery couch. But Emmy is someone I can count on to be there when I need her–reliable and steadfast in both good times and bad. She prayed with me when I was making a tough career choice. She held my gown closed so I wouldn’t flash the nurse at the hospital. She even helped me mow the lawn! (Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is what I would call a keeper!)

Part of the support that I love about Emmy is her sincere honesty. That is, I appreciate it when she tells me that I got a really bad haircut, or that my worn jacket looks like it’s seen better days. If I’m going to have a partner for life, I need to know that she’ll be truthful to me, will watch my back, and will steer me in the right direction when I’ve made a wrong turn. And it’s my hope that I can reciprocate that support–that I will be there for her when she needs me…..to listen to her hopes, fears, and anything in between. And as our lives become more intertwined, I hope we continue to build out our marriage based on this trust and sincerity.

I like video games….alot. Some would say too much; others would say that Call of Duty is on par with breakfast as the most important meal of the day. They have been a virtual second home for me since my childhood. They are how I choose to spend my personal time, my free time, and how I can still maintain relationships with the friends I’ve had for years, as our own lives begin to delineate from each others. I don’t know what I would do without them (I might go crazy).

But I had a life changing moment three years ago (To the day!), one that would forever change the spectrum that was, what I thought, a fulfilling life. I met Sarah, my beautiful, wonderful, spectacular, funny, loving, everything-under-the-sun fiance. They say that everything can change in a moment and whoever “they” are, they’re right. In the blink of an eye, the world I had, the countless hours spent zoned in front of a TV screen, the long sleepless nights of headset derived smack-talking and team rivalries, they didn’t seem as fun anymore…they didn’t seem to be enough. Nothing, it seemed, would ever be able to shine quite as brightly as the beautiful girl standing before me.

Fast forward to today. That guy with the uncontrollable smile on his face, that’s me. The quirky blond with the ski hat, that’s the love of my life. And this picture is the two of us, doing what we do best: loving the time we spend with each other more than anything else in the world. So what am I thankful for? I am thankful for sunrises, and someone to share them with; I am thankful for snowstorms and snowball fights and someone to give piggy back rides through the icy trenches; I am thankful for quiet nights, and hectic lives, and someone to share the good times and the bad. But most of all, I am thankful for her, for loving me, and for making my life mean so much more, be so much more, than just my Gamer-score.

I’ll start with stating that it is cruel and unfair to force the male half of an engaged couple to choose just one thing they are most thankful for. Women, by sheer nature, will automatically hone in on all of the other things you didn’t mention and say something like, “that’s what you’re most thankful for!?” Most women, that is, but not Saskia. Naturally, I’m thankful for a whole lot of things about my fiancé, but having to choose one, I am going with her passion. Saskia is extremely driven and puts all of her energy into whatever task is at hand and that can be anything from work, loving me, planning our wedding or calling an airline and demanding a refund for a plane ticket she couldn’t use! This energy almost always produces better results and also makes her really fun to be around. It also naturally makes me want to put more energy and more care into everything that I am doing – it’s contagious! I truly admire this quality in her and how much better and more fun everything we do is because of it – its only ever a problem if she’s being really passionate about making me clean up all my junk!:PEvery day we have together is an adventure, even if it is just sitting around watching TV and cooking, and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with this amazing and wonderful woman!
